Croiddur Barn is spacious and spectacular place to stay. Previous visitors have commented that staying in the barn ‘makes you feel rich’! Built in a style that’s particular to this area, the barn has ‘folded corners’, a huge window overlooking the pond and two fine arched doorways. Once they allowed the passage of hay wagons, now the windows infuse the building with light and bring the magnificent countryside indoors.

Rather than cram this remarkable space with rooms, the barn retains its sense of scale, with a sunken lounge, a slate floored kitchen and dining area alongside two bedrooms, and on an upper level, bedroom three, the bathroom and a peaceful balcony sitting area.

To show off the barn’s unusual beams and striking layout, it is decorated in a simple, contemporary style. Extensive refurbishments have added solar hot water and central heating to make this a modern, comfortable, and environmentally friendly place to stay.

Kitchen and Dining Area

The slate-floored kitchen and dining area is the heart of the building and overlooks the gardens of Cwmcroiddur to one side and the mountain and woodland to the other. Here there’s a newly installed contemporary kitchen, a substantial dining table and ample chairs. Guests who rent both the barn and cottage are easily able to eat together in the barn.

With an island unit, solid beech work surfaces, gas hob, electric oven and ceramic sink, it’s a kitchen to enjoy cooking in while remaining part of the crowd. There’s a dishwasher, fridge and microwave as well as all the pots and pans, glasses, crockery and cutlery that you're likely to need. Eight Italian designer spotlights provide subtle lighting creating an intimate and convivial space in which to eat, drink and relax.

Lounge Area

Down four steps from the dining room, and taking up the full width of one end of the barn, the lounge area is very special. With the ceiling and roof beams thirty feet overhead, and a large window overlooking the Croiddur stream, it’s a place that feels at once cosy and grand. The lounge has comfy chairs, cushions, throws and a sofa; a large wood-burning stove proves both heat and entertainment for the fire-raisers in your party!

With three of Croiddur Barn’s signature arrow-slit windows, Italian designer spotlights provide the perfect environment in which to read, write or simply talk. There’s a small library, a collection of DVDs and board games, and as the lounge overlooks the garden, you can sit in the warmth and watch the birds, the weather or the time go by.

Bedrooms

There are three bedrooms and a bathroom in Croiddur Barn, all at the opposite end of the barn to the Lounge. The twin and single rooms are on the ground floor, the double bedroom upstairs. Should you need to sleep more than five, we can provide a Zed bed. Duvets, bed linen and towels are provided. All the rooms are light and airy and simply decorated. Each room has bedside lights, a wash hand-basin and central heating radiator.

Bathroom

This is on the first floor next to the double bedroom. The newly decorated bathroom contains a bath with shower, a washbasin and toilet.

Heating and Hot Water

The central heating in the barn is a modern oil-fired system, powered by a condensing boiler sited outside the barn (to avoid noise). The hot water is heated in winter by oil, but when the sun is out, a cutting-edge Filsol passive solar hot water system provides ample hot water and helps the environment

Outdoors

Black Mountain beyond

Croiddur Barn has a large, newly installed balcony and barbecue area in a private spot overlooking the Nant Croiddur stream and the Black Mountain beyond. The balcony is accessed via steps down from the barn’s entrance courtyard. Visitors staying in Croiddur Barn can also make use of a large lawned area behind the barn with a footpath through a small silver birch wood up onto Mynydd Mallaen.
